Doc Rivers Will Not Break Up Clippers’ Core

The Clippers had championship aspirations this season, but the injury bug bit them in the worst way this season. And that’s too bad, because this was the best this core had ever looked, and that was even without Blake Griffin for much of the season.

There have been talks for a few years that the Clippers need to blow up that roster, and now seems like the time. But not so fast, says head coach and GM Doc Rivers. Per Rivers, he does not play on moving Chris Paul, Blake Griffin or DeAndre Jordan.

Frankly, that’s wise. Chemistry doesn’t grown on trees and if he were to blow it up now, it would take forever to recapture that chemistry, and there’s no time for that in the Western Conference.

”I like our core and I like our bench, which was really good this year,” Rivers said three days after the Clippers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Portland Trail Blazers in six games.

”I think they all want to come back, and we’re going to make a strong effort to bring all our guys back. The good news about the free-agent guys who are opting out on their contracts – as they should because everyone knows what we can spend and what we can’t spend – I can’t find one who doesn’t want to be here.”
