It has been 20 years since the Los Angeles Lakers 1986-87 season in which they won 67 games in the regular season and defeated the Boston Celtics in their rubber match of their NBA Finals rivalry to win their fourth championship of the decade.
The Lakers have decided the best way to honor that all-time great squad is to don their uniforms for three home games this season.
The Lakers will honor the 86-87 championship squad by wearing Hardwood Classics unis 3 times this season: https://t.co/2uoNVT99jf #LakeShow pic.twitter.com/jj52KZvNhQ

In a cool and unique wrinkle to their decision making process of when to bust out the jerseys, the Lakers will wear them against the 3 teams that are still active franchises (sorry Sonics fans) that they defeated in the 1987 playoffs to win the title, the Nuggets, Warriors and Celtics of course.
The fist appearance of these uniforms is Friday night against the Golden State Warriors at home, followed by a home game against the Denver Nuggets on January 17, and finally a finals rematch with the Boston Celtics on March 3.
This is a fun and well-thought out way to honor one of the greatest teams in NBA history. Lakers fans can only hope that in the near future they find that sort of magic on the hardwood again.
