Finals Game 6: Farmar And Brown Show Off Mad Dunking Skills

June 17, 2010 – Allen Moll

Lost in all of the shrapnel of the Lakers 89-67 blowout over the rival Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Finals was two truly spectacular dunks by Lakers reserve players Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar. Maybe it was the fact that most media outlets have reported how much better Boston’s bench players have performed during the Finals or could it possibly by a statement by Brown, who was a total dud during this year’s Slam Dunk Contest? No one knows, but both players served up some sweet chin music all over the Celtics grills during the uninspiring, yet pivotal Game 6.

While Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol where doing their best to stave off elimination at the hands of the Celtics, Jordan Farmar decided early on that it was time to make a statement dunk. After a steal by teammate Lamar Odom, Farmar raced ahead of the Celtics’ defense to receive a perfect pass from the “Candy Man” before jamming the rock right in Kevin Garnett’s face.

Not to be outdone by his backcourt benchmate, the high flying Shannon Brown served up a one-handed alley oop that easily has to be the jam of the Finals, if not one of the best dunks of the entire season. On a quick hitter in the middle of the 3rd quarter, Brown decided to show that he has the hops of a kangaroo by catching a lob, with his head clearly above the rim and throwing it down with authority to the dismay of the Celtics faithful.
