The Cavaliers better hope the long known Madden curse doesn’t extend to the hardwood. The highly popular NBA 2K franchise (I roll with “The Process” these days) has announced their cover athlete for the 2K18 version of the game, Kyrie Irving.

The timing was very savvy for the game makers as it was released the same day as Game 1 of the most anticipated NBA Finals in quite some time, the trilogy between the Cavaliers and Warriors.
Irving has morphed into a superstar and one of the most exhilarating players to watch in the league at the age of 25. His incredible ball handling skills and substance to go with his flash make him one of the most entertaining and dangerous offensive weapons in the NBA.
Irving of course hit what amounted to the game winning shot of Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, a step back three-pointer in the face of Steph Curry.
He is the first point guard to grace the cover by his lonesome since Chris Paul 10 years ago, and surprisingly enough he is the first Cavalier to be on the cover as well.
LeBron was on the cover of the 2K14 game as a member of the Miami Heat.
For the specialty “Legends Edition” of the game that fans can pre-order, newly enshrined and bronzed (with a statue outside of Staples Center) Shaquille O’Neal will be on the cover.

Shaq was actually on the NBA 2K6 and NBA 2K7 editions of the game as a member of the Miami Heat.
There were some murmurs that the man, the myth, the legend (or the idiot) Lavar Ball would grace the cover…

Sorry couldn’t help myself, I guarantee Lavar prints that tweets it out and makes himself a specialty cover of the game featuring himself though.
Here is too getting buckets and dunking everything on next year’s edition of NBA 2K, I am ready to go.
