Former Rockets and Lakers forward Josh Powell has been added to the Rockets coaching staff after having been unofficially working with them since late October. He states that all the paper work has been checked, which officially makes him the newest member of the Rockets staff. Via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle…
“They offered me the opportunity,” Powell said. “I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I just came to (Kevin McHale) and said I was going to slow my way into it. Finally, I said, ‘Let’s give it a chance and see where it goes.’ The staff has been really great about helping me, walking me through the process, being part of the meetings, being able to give input. It’s been great. The players have been great in allowing me to tell them certain things.”
Asked if he would like to make a career in coaching, eventually as a head coach, Powell said, “You have to aim for the sky. Whatever I get involved in, I give it my all.”
Powell spent a part of his last season with the Rockets and has played a total of eight NBA seasons under different teams (Mavs, Pacers, Warriors, Clippers, Lakers, Hawks, and Rockets).
