Delonte West Gets Suspended By Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks Coach Rick Carlisle this morning announced that the team has decided to suspend guard Delonte West for ‘conduct detrimental to the team’. Details are limited as to the incident, but apparently West had some sort of locker room incident after a Dallas win. Some are speculating the outburst was due to lack of playing time and touches in the preseason win, but others have been speculating the outburst may be related to his diagnosed Bipolar Disorder. Here is what ESPN Dallas had on the incident:

Sources told ESPNDallas.com that West’s suspension stems at least in part from an outburst in the locker room after the Mavs’ 123-104 preseason win Monday over the Houston Rockets. He had 2 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound in 16 minutes during the win.

West tweeted later Monday: “Sorry moma…” and “I showed off on ur birthday again…”

West was a valuable role player for the Mavs last season, averaging 9.6 points and 3.2 assists and playing tenacious defense while seeing time at both guard positions. Details are unavailable regarding his return from suspension.
