When super-producer Swizz Beatz became the acting Creative Director of the Reebok Classic division, a few things became certain in regards to the future of the company. It has been well documented already that Mr. One-Man Bandman is an admirer of Jean-Machel Basquiat’s work and since the artist already had been affiliated with the company, Reebok will be directing a lot of focus toward pieces inspired by The Radiant Child.
The biggest standout feature on this Omni Lite Pump is the allover print which replicates Basquiat’s trademark crown in black. White leather is used on the base as well as on the support tabs, laces, and toecap while black is also applied on the tongue branding and patent leather seen on the back.
Reebok’s Affili’Art program provides a bridge that allows artists in Under the Reebok Affili’Art program, artists Jean-Michel Basquiat, John Maeda and Rolland Berry have all had sneakers released in the likeness of some of their more popular respective pieces. Only the most popular classic silhouettes are tapped for use for Affili’Art products.
