One Armed HS Player Dominates Florida Hoops

March 6, 2012 – Allen Moll

Back in 2009, we brought you the inspirational story of Kevin Laue, the 6‘11 one handed high school player from California, who earned a scholarship as a Division I hoops recruit at Manhattan College.

Fast forward almost 3 years, and another outstanding high school baller, who just happens to have the use of only one of his hands is making a serious push towards becoming a Division I player.

Rising junior Landus Anderson, hailing from Tallahassee, Florida suffers from a condition called Erb’s Palsy, where he doesn’t have the use of his right hand, yet has been a part of his high school’s varsity basketball squad since freshman year.

I know what your thinking, but Landus is hardly a charity case since he is his squad’s leading scorer and rebounder at more than 19 ppg and 8 rebounds a game, in addition to have even led his Summer AAU team, Team Florida Extreme, to the Team Nike AAU Semi-Finals last season. During that magical run, Anderson was voted one of the event’s top performers, putting up an average of 22 points per contest.

Although he doesn’t have any official offers to play Division I ball just yet, his AAU coach Curtis Miller definitely thinks he has the goods to succeed at the next level:

“A kid like Landus and his ability to play basketball, they come through every 20 or 30 years. He’s a talent. He can shoot outside, he can take it inside, he can overpower you skill wise, has basketball IQ. The sky is the limit.” …”He’ll have no problem playing at the next level,” Miller said. “It’s hard work, dedication. This kid is the total package.”

One would think that opposing coaches would just tell his players to make him go right, but Landus has an outstanding crossover dribble, along with some amazing quickness and handles that make him virtually un-guardable. Amazingly he excels at taking the ball to the rack in addition to a deft outside shot. Best of luck Landus……
