Jerry Sloan Keeps on Truckin

It was announced on Monday that Jerry Sloan signed a one-year extension with the Utah Jazz. Therefore, he will be coaching the team through the 2011-2012 season. Sloan has been the coach of the Jazz for a staggering 23 seasons. He is easily the longest tenured coach in all of professional sports. In a day and age when coaches are hired to be fired, Sloan’s long tenure is somewhat surreal. As you can imagine, Sloan has racked up some fairly impressive achievements in his nearly quarter of a century coaching in Salt Lake City.

Sloan is the first coach in NBA history to accumulate 1,000 victories with one franchise, In addition, Sloan is the third winningest coach in NBA history. Even more eye popping, is there have been 245 different coaching changes in the NBA since Sloan started coaching the Jazz in 1988. Although Sloan has won his fair share of basketball games, he has never won a championship. Unfortunately, unless things drastically change in Utah, Sloan will most likely retire without a championship ring.

On any note, it is great to see the loyalty that the coach and organization have in one another. Enjoy the videos of coach Sloan after the jump.
