Disappointed that the Orlando Magic rank 26th in offensive efficiency?
So are the Orlando Magic.
In the face of these offensive woes, the team hopes to land a scorer in a midseason trade, according to the Orlando Sentinel‘s Josh Robbins:
The Orlando Magic will sift through the trade market in an effort to add a scorer, a league source with knowledge of the situation told the Orlando Sentinel.
…
It’s unclear whom the Magic would be willing to part with in a trade. But their assets include several players who are in the final season of their contracts: Jeff Green, Serge Ibaka, Jodie Meeks and C.J. Wilcox. The Magic also have C.J. Watson, whose 2017-18 salary is only partially guaranteed.
This makes total sense. The Magic have pieced together one of the league’s top defenses, but they won’t get anywhere special if they cannot score consistently or space the floor (they also rank 26th in three-point efficiency).
Chances are they will look to deal one of their many, many bigs. Nikola Vucevic has already been moved to the bench, and Aaron Gordon is not playing well on offense at small forward. Though no one on this roster is likely untouchable, Bismack Biyombo and Serge Ibaka probably won’t be moved by default. The Magic gave up two lottery prospects to get Ibaka (Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis), and Bismack Biyombo’s deal is probably immovable with the way he’s been playing.
It’s also unclear what the Magic’s best package will get them. Very few teams will want Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic together, and Orlando really isn’t in a position to ship out any draft picks.
In other words, stay tuned.
