Boeheim Speaks About Cuse’s Move to the ACC

September 22, 2011 – Kevin Burke

Earlier in the week, I expressed my great displeasure with the dismantling of the Big East Conference. I spoke at length about why it bothers me and what I think the future of the conference is. Although the Big East and ACC are undoubtedly basketball conferences, the move was fueled by football and marks the first time where basketball conferences were shaken up due to potential revenue generated by football.

These decisions are ultimately made by the athletic directors and his/her staff but I wondered how the coaches felt. In particular, Hall of Fame coaches who have been with the particular school for 30+ years and have been a part of the Big East from the beginning. Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim has been manning the sidelines for the Orange forever and he has been synonymous with the conference. Yesterday, he was a guest on ESPN’s Outside the Lines and he shared some of his feeling about the move. In the video below, he expresses that he was initially bothered by the decision, but is happy to be going to a great conference. In fact, he insinuates that if Syracuse was going to a lesser conference, he would’ve stepped down. Also, he says that he wasn’t consulted at all in the decision.
