For those of you sleeping on the Baylor Bears in the newly restructured Big 12 next season, this video may sway your opinion. They feature no less than 2 potential NBA Lottery picks in Perry Jones and incoming fabulous freshman Quincy Miller, along with possibly the greatest dunker that the HS ranks has ever seen in freshman Deuce Bello.
The Bears lost the Big 12 Conference’s all time leading scorer in LaceDarius Dunn, but little else from an 18 win squad last season that underachieved. They underachieved because they lacked quality PG play, especially after Tweety Carter graduated after the ‘09-’10 season. With perennial conference powers Kansas and Texas in perceived rebuilding mode, Baylor may be the dark horse favorites to win the conference.
One reason that this season should be much different is that Coach Drew has brought in a Top 15 rated recruiting class that netted him not only the highly touted Miller and Bello, but more importantly #1 rated JUCO player Pierre Jackson to run the point.
Judging by this video footage of the Bears from a pre-season game in Canada, the Bears looked in mid-season form, seemingly running a layup drill on the Ontario Revolution, on the way to a 103-68 rout.
New PG Pierre Jackson (17pts, 5ast, 3stl), super soph Perry Jones (16pts, 9 reb), Boston College transfer SG Brady Heslip (12pts, 2stl) and Bello (14pts, 4reb) all looked spectacular in the preseason tilt. Just think, the still re-habbing Quincy Miller and imposing forward Quincy Acy didn’t even see action in the run-away win.
