Allen Iverson Agrees to $4 Million Over 2 Years in Turkey

As a longtime fan of the NBA, and a big supporter of what Iverson did for the league in the post-Jordan era, i’m sad to see the end of Allen Iverson’s NBA career. The Hoop Doctors gave you lots of reasons NBA teams should sign him and lots of reasons NBA teams might be hesitant to sign him. But at the end of the day he’s headed to Turkey as they must have realized the positives outweighed the negatives in bringing in a player of his caliber and fame…

As of this weekend he has agreed to terms on a two year deal to play in the Turkish professional league. He does have an opt-out clause after the first year, so who knows maybe we will see him back in the league after he rebuilds his reputation as an elite scorer overseas?

Allen Iverson has agreed in principle to sign an incentive-laden, two-year, $4 million contract with Besiktas of the Turkish professional league.

Iverson plans to sign the contract this week, the sources said, and is expected to report to Besiktas the week of Oct. 31.

Iverson’s contract will give him an opt-out clause after this season. There’s no escape clause during the season for Iverson to leave Turkey and return to the NBA.

Iverson, 35, could make his debut for Besiktas on Nov. 6 in a game against Bornova. Besiktas played its first game of the season on Oct. 19 and is 1-1 in league standings.
