Fans Set Fire In Greek League Playoffs

April 5, 2012 – Allen Moll

By now I’m sure everyone has heard that members of Kentucky’s rabid fanbase, known affectionately as the Big Blue Nation, got a little unruly in and around Lexington in celebration of the Wildcats winning their 8th National Title.

Aside from the usual couch burnings and flipped over police cruisers, one man even had to have his foot amputated following a shooting amid all of the late night alcohol induced celebrations.

But those crazy European hoops fans once again topped their American counterparts by inexplicably setting an out of control 4 alarm fire indoors during a Olympiakos/Montepaschi Siena match-up that saw the Greek team advance to the Final Four Round of the post-season.

Outrageous violence and shenanigans are nothing new to Greek League Playoffs as just 2 seasons ago, fans threw explosives at referees in protest of some blown calls.

During that same time frame, two teams in the Serbian League Finals were involved in an 18 player battle royal that would make Vince McMahon of the WWE proud.

Former Texas A&M stand-out and NBA Lottery pick Acie Law, Michigan State star Kalin Lucas, and University of Memphis big man Joey Dorsey star for Olympiakos.
