Cavaliers Interested in Mario Chalmers

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Cavaliers appear to be very interested in free agent point guard Mario Chalmers.

This makes complete and perfect sense for a number of reasons including the Cavaliers need for another veteran point guard after losing Matthew Dellavedova to the Bucks in free agency and Mo Williams to retirement. Also, the fact that there current back up point guard is rookie late second round pick, 5’9″ dynamo Kay Felder. He has looked good in the pre-season and is well liked by his teammates but is far too green and risky to be relied upon for consistent minutes for the defending champs in search of a repeat.

Another big reason this makes sense is the fact that Mario Chalmers is familiar with LeBron. He was the Heat’s starting point guard during the big three era in Miami. He has a propensity for being at his best in big moments like in Game 4 of the 2012 NBA Finals, scoring 25 points or hitting the shot to send the National Championship overtime in college when Chalmers and the Jayhawks upset Derrick Rose’s Memphis Tigers.

Chalmers will just need to prove he is all but recovered from his torn achilles and he will be donning the wine and gold soon I would imagine. J.R. Smith on the other hand may be another story…
