Damian Lillard won’t be following Kevin Durant’s lead and joining the Golden State Warriors anytime soon.
Or ever.
Lillard was born and attended high school in Oakland, California, so naturally he was asked about playing for Golden State on Twitter. His response was less than encouraging for Warriors fans who are already hoping to pry him from the Portland Trail Blazers in 2021, when he becomes an unrestricted free agent:

We’ll see if he’s singing the same tune five years from now, when the Warriors’ livelihood is tethered to an aging Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond.
That’s a scary thought, isn’t it? The idea of the Warriors’ core being past its prime? It’s almost as terrifying as thinking about the Warriors’ core in its prime.
Anyway, props to Lillard to for displaying some loyalty to his Blazers. It’s not like he could have done anything else, obviously. But he could have taken the diplomatic route, complementing the Warriors, or talking about how important his roots are to him, before politely rejecting the idea.
Instead, he went with “Hell no.”
To which Blazers fans should say “Hell yes.”
