Charlotte Hornets center Bismack Biyombo didn’t play in Wendesday night’s victory over the Chicago Bulls due to a lingering knee injury, but he made a massive impact off the court.
According to his Instagram, Biyombo was walking around Chicago, Illinois, last night and noticed a homeless man sleeping outside.
After conversing for a period, the fourth-year pro asked the man if he wanted to get food. The man replied to Biyombo that he’d love to but couldn’t enter the restaurant with the 6’9″ center because they looked different. He wished he could just design t-shirts.
So, Biyombo said he decided to buy some clothes for the man, too, though his charitable act wasn’t originally met with applause from mall security.
“As we walk around the mall before we go get some food, officers had to ask if he was with me until we get to the restaurant!!”
Biyombo shared the man reads books and recommended one called The Secret, which Biyombo said would be his next one. The NBA reserve finished his post with a challenge.
So people I will just ask you to help because you want to not because you have to.. Help build a better society, be part of something special!! God bless
Biyombo has also performed other charitable work, particularly in his native Congo. For two years, he’s held basketball camps in his birty city of Lubumbashi and the capital, Kinshasa.
Considering the amount of negative news surrounding athletes these days in various topics, it’s wonderful to see someone in Biyombo’s position reaching out and making a difference.
The seventh overall pick in 2012 hasn’t always been a reliable contributor on the court, but he certainly appears like he’s an All-Star off of it.
