While MANY sneaker news outlets (including us in April ago SORRY but we corrected in time for the August releases) reported this year’s Blacktop Battleground silhouette revival as the II or the second installment in the streetball sneaker line, the Reebok Blacktops that have been seen and releasing all of 2014 is actually the Blacktop Battlegrounds III.
One of the best basketball sneaker blogs on the internet is Defy New York and these guys over there had an connect at Agenda NYC that I didn’t thru Reebok Classics were they essentially broke the news that Reebok will continue the Blacktop revival in 2015 bringing back the Blacktop Battlegrounds II.
Here we see two colorways from the original release in the early 90s. The appeal of the current Blacktop Battleground series revival comes from its true basketball pedigree paired with simple, white-based color blocking.
It does take a keen eye to notice the different between the first three Battleground silhouettes (which come mostly in the shoe’s paneling and ventalated triangle placement) in the Reebok Blacktop series but if you look at them long enough the difference become more apparent. Maybe I’ll do a feature on the differences…
