Before Foot Locker begins their annual Week Of Greatness campaign, they invited select footwear media members to participate in a basketball game at the New York Knicks newly-renovated Madison Square Garden arena. For those who don’t remember from our Week Of Greatness coverage from last year, Foot Locker sets aside a single week with new, sought-after sneaker releases everyday for an entire week.
To start the day off we all assembled inside of the media entrance to The Garden before taking a private elevator up to the locker rooms to change. Lockers were designated by each scribe’s name to help make us feel like actual players. The way teams were designated was by the gear in each players locker. Divided into Team Black and Team Red, the black team wore the Jordan CP3.VII while the red team laced up the adidas D Rose 4. All teams had corresponding shorts on with Stance providing the socks in all different designs but they still hooked up to our kicks and a brand-matching backpack since we all got to keep the gear we played in.
After a surprisingly competitive game, Team Black won over Team Red with a 51-50 victory. Then came the Foot Locker Week Of Greatness sneaker unveiling right at center court after changing back into street clothes. There are new colorways of the more popular sneakers coming out like the ‘Safari’ Nike Foamposite One, ‘Brick City’ Reebok Shaq Attaq, & ‘Oreo’ Air Jordan V as well as two new colorways of the recently-retroed Converse Aero-Jam of Grandmama Larry Johnson fame.
When the product unveiling was over, we headed over to W. 34th towards the Foot Locker Headquarters for a round-table discussion on the current state of sneakers with the corporate heads & world-famous DJ Clark Kent. On the way, we passed by the new Foot Locker Kids location with ALL of the usual fan gear like signature sneakers, player jerseys, and team hats will be available for the youth of all sizes. When the buyers meeting at Foot Locker HQ finished we walked back over to The Garden to premiere an upcoming Foot Locker spot with JR Smith for their Week Of Greatness campaign before enjoying the Knicks/Pacers game which went to overtime and featured another solid performance by Paul George in a Indiana win.
Thanks to Foot Locker for having me over the hospitable staff at Madison Square Garden.
