When we first learned that Deron Williams was going to play in Turkey during the lockout, I was opposed to the idea. I’m a picky NBA fan and didn’t want to “share” the players with any other league. Also, I thought that it hurt the brand because it marked the first time a marquee player would play overseas while still in his prime. But when I found out that he’d be getting $5M to do so, I quickly got over myself.
Deron was treated to somewhat of a rockstar greeting upon arriving in Turkey, and hasn’t disappointed since. We’ve been privy to a handful of highlights to keep us up to speed on how he’s doing over there and now have another one. In a recent game, Deron dropped 50 points for Besiktas. As you’ll see in the clip, he completely has his way with the defenders. He does it from inside and out. Granted the defense being displayed doesn’t quite look as tough as it sometimes can be in the NBA, but 50 is 50 no matter how you slice it.
Deron’s NBA team, the New Jersey Nets, are doing everything in their power to convince him to remain in New Jersey and ultimately in Brooklyn when the club makes the move. They’re also hoping to land Dwight Howard which would prove to be a potent 1 -2 punch. But how would Dwight feel knowing that Deron only had one assist to go along with his 50?
