It took a lot of research, but what you are about to witness is the waning minutes of the 13th Gulf Cooperation Junior Basketball Championship in Bahrain. I know, slow news day.
With just over 2 minutes remaining and Bahrain on the verge of a hard fought victory, virtual insanity broke out.
After the Kuwait team gave a rather demonstrative objection to a foul call by the officials, a player from Bahrain touches a player from Kuwait on the hip in an attempt to calm him down. But the touch had quite the opposite effect as players from both teams promptly engaged in a knock-down, drag-out melee that seemed to last more than 20 minutes.
After multiple attempts to end the fight, a few sheiks in attendance then began to quarrel and shove each-other before, in a funny but touching scene, one sheik continually tries to remove another’s headgear and kiss him on the forehead.
The match was unfortunately called off with an advisory committee set to decide when and if the match is to be continued or replayed.
While this skirmish doesn’t quite rank as high, or as low depending how you look at it, as when fans threw explosives at referees during last year’s Greek League Finals but it definitely is on par with the WWE style melee that went down earlier this year in Iceland.
Of course, the best all-time individual fight has to be the Shaq vs Barkley throwdown from the ’99 NBA season.
