Before the season started, Jason Terry had a tattoo of the Larry O’Brien trophy tattooed on the inside of biceps. Terry stated that he wanted the tattoo to send a message to his teammates. So far, the message has been received, the Mavericks are four wins away from hoisting the prestigious piece of hardware inked on Terry’s biceps.
When I first heard the story of Terry getting the tattoo, it didn’t seem like that major of an issue to me as it did to others. It’s not as though Terry pulled a Joe Namath and guaranteed a championship. In hindsight, it seems more ironic than cocky.
Nonetheless, if Terry and the Mavericks come up short in the Finals against Miami, Terry will have the tattoo removed. Terry said the tattoo would then be considered bad luck. If the Mavs do lose, couldn’t he keep the tattoo to serve as an even bigger motivation to get back to the Finals next season?
