Top 8th Graders in Nation Turn Game into Personal Dunk Off

May 5, 2011 – Allen Moll

Usually when 8th grade ballers play out their Summer League schedules the average fan doesn’t even take notice. But when we are talking about arguably two of the top players in the 2015 class playing against each other, it instantly becomes note-worthy. The already 6’8 inch Horace Spencer, hailing from Philadelphia has already drawn comparisons to Lebron James and the 6’2 inch Canadian born Jamar Ergas already has some notoriety for pulling off a sweet 360 in live game action during the regular season.

Standing a legit 6’8 prior to entering high school, Spencer undeniably stands a good chance of becoming an outstanding basketball player and dominating big man that Division I scouts clamor for. He already appears to possess the skills of a HS upperclassmen under the basket and has a developing skill-set from the perimeter to the point where he can dribble from end to end through traffic. He really started to get some national exposure when he nearly jumped over a defender to jam home a coast to coast breakaway. While the comparisons to King James are unfair, he has a great future ahead of himself nonetheless.

Remember the name Jamar Ergas, since there’s no doubting that he will be on everyone’s radar by the time he is a senior at Christian Faith Center Academy in North Carolina. He has a game that plays out way above the rim. Many have already questioned whether he is the best 8th grade dunker ever? While on the surface that may seem like an exaggeration, consider that he has already has been measured as having a 40 inch vertical leap and has won a HS dunk contest as a 14 year old.

Check out Spencer and Ergas having an in game dunk-off during AAU play:
