Singler Trick Shots: Kyle Gets Buckets 2.0

May 25, 2011 – Allen Moll

This has to be a stressful time for Duke’s Kyle Singler. After all, he has played his last home game at historic Cameron Indoor Arena and has to be sweating it out, wondering exactly just where he will be selected in the upcoming 2011 NBA Draft, after his senior campaign finished in disappointing fashion, losing to Arizona in the Sweet 16.

Although the Blue Devils couldn’t match the Wildcats intensity in falling a few rounds short of a repeat Title Game appearance, it’s not really clear why Singler’s stats fell across the board during his senior season. When Kyle passed up millions by returning to Duke this past season in hopes of a repeat, it seemed like a good move with several key pieces of the roster returning along with the addition of fabulous freshman Kyrie Irving.

But things didn’t quite go as planned since although the team had another great season, Singler seemed stuck in a shooting funk for the majority of the season, shooting 43% from the field and a career worst 32% from behind the arc. His scoring, assists, and rebounding numbers also fell as he averaged a paltry 13.5 points and 6 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament.

As a result, his draft stock has fallen as well. After last season, he arguably could have been a Lottery to mid 1st Round Selection where as after his senior campaign, he’s rated as the 6th best SF prospect and is a borderline 1st Round pick in most NBA Mock Drafts.

All the drama doesn’t seem to bother Singler as his cool as a cucumber demeanor shows through on and off the court. While he always has a college degree to fall back on, he may want to give entering the trick shot arena a thought by giving Dude Perfect, the self proclaimed King of the Trick Shot, a run for his money.

If you remember, Kyle did a bang up job on his first trick shot video – Kyle Gets Buckets, as he entertained Duke fans by nailing a number of impossible shots from anywhere and everywhere on Duke campus. In his follow-up attempt, Kyle Gets Buckets 2.0, Singler again impresses, this time by sinking a no-look shot over a tent, a running jumper off of a high dive, and amazingly from the bell tower atop the 210 foot high Duke Chapel.
