Kobe Bryant’s New All Star Edition 3D Kicks

February 18, 2011 – Allen Moll

That’s right, you read it correctly. As part of Nike’s new “Hollywood” collection, the designers for the athletic footwear juggernaut have come up with a new special edition “3D” themed version of the Zoom Kobe VI’s that are currently selling off the shelves, probably behind the now viral marketing campaign which features the Black Mamba in his very own movie trailer and is penned by famous movie director Robert Rodriquez.

If you remember, Nike also came up with those odd, green colored Kobe Zooms worn by a number of Lakers players on Christmas day against the Miami Heat. Many have nicknamed those special editions the “Grinch” version of Kobe’s newest shoes.

Kobe’s newest “3D” editions will debut this weekend, you guessed it, during this Sunday’s NBA All Star Game. Nike’s newest creations are very similar to the regular Zoom Kobe VI but with a few wrinkles. They have a pair of sunglasses sewn into the tongue, with the outside decked out in a grey themed snakeskin pattern and Nike’s trademark Swoop symbol in alternating blue on the outsole and conversely red across the insole.

I guess these come in handy just in case you want to see your feet in 3D while dunking over someone or if you want to watch Kobe’s feet come to life during All Star weekend.  But you better save your pennies since each pair of the new kicks, which come with a complimentary pair if 3D glasses, is reportedly retailing for a cool $249. Ok, maybe the glasses aren’t free. Either way, it beats being a certain unnamed NBA rookie(with the initials ET),  getting his very own All Star edition kicks, then not getting invited to participate in the Rookie/Sophomore game.
