With the additions of point guard Brandon Jennings and forward Josh Smith in free agency, fans in Detroit may finally have something to cheer about in the “Motor City.”
They are coming off of a disappointing 29 win season and have missed the postseason the past 4 years. And the glory years under coach Larry Brown and Flip Saunders during the mid 2000’s when the Pistons won the ’04 Championship and made it to 6 straight Conference Championships are long gone.
New coach Maurice Cheeks surely hopes to turn the calendar back to an even earlier time during the late 80’s when the “Bad Boys” led by Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars won back-to-back titles in ’89-’90. Many view those squads that also featured a young Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer, and John Salley as some of the Greatest NBA Champions of All Time.
They now boast one of the most potent frontcourts in the NBA, led by former Atlanta Hawk Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, and the ever improving Andre Drummond. That paired with the signing of Jennings from Milwaukee has many around Detroit thinking Playoffs this coming season.
To add to the excitement, Joe Dumars has decided to tie into Detroit’s legendary automobile industry background, to come up with these awesome new “Motor City” alternate jerseys, as unveiled by Greg Monroe on Instagram….
