Jeremy Lin Claimed by Knicks Off Waivers

Jeremy Lin is one of the first Asian players to make it to the NBA in quite some time. So regardless of how he plays, it is definitely an accomplishment that people are going to give him attention for. Especially in light of the fact that after graduating High School he didn’t even have one scholarship offer. So he chose to attend Harvard, not a bad back-up academically though, right? But Lin doesn’t want to just be known as a great Asian basketball player, he wants to be thought of a a great NBA basketball player, period.

He doesn’t play the game with much of the ‘super athleticism’ or flair we are used to seeing in NBA PG’s, but he is extremely heady and plays the game efficiently. Around here we have always thought he was a deserving of an NBA rotation spot. So we are happy to report that after being released by the Warriors, picked up off waivers and released by the Houston Rockets, he has now officially been claimed off waivers by the New York Knicks to fill their back up point guard slot.

Knicks fans will be excited to see what Lin can do to add a spark off the bench for them.

The New York Knicks have claimed guard Jeremy Lin off waivers to fill a void at backup point guard.

Lin was released Sunday by the Rockets to make roster room for Houston’s signing of Samuel Dalembert.

The Rockets had claimed Lin off waivers after he was released by the Golden State Warriors, who had to let him go to create the requisite salary-cap space for a four-year offer sheet worth nearly $43 million to then-restricted DeAndre Jordan that was matched by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Lin is a Bay Area native who played in 29 games last season as a rookie with the Warriors, becoming the NBA’s first Asian-American player since 1947. (via)

Some are saying he won’t stay in NY for long, because Shumpert will come back. I say as long as he’s given 10 mpg during the period, Lin will stay until the end of the season. Lin is at the very least capable as a back-up combo guard, and his basketball IQ and intensity bring something very unique to the game that I rarely see in today’s game. I just hope he gets the several minutes he deserves, because that’s what he wasn’t given @ GS.

Totally agree with you Hans. This here is the type of BS that some ignorant Knicks fans have been giving Lin online so far….

It’s totally BS because anyone who has seen Lin play in Cali and Harvard knows this guy could be scary good if given decent minutes in a rotation. Especially when paired with scoring bigs like Melo and Amare who are solid finishers.

When you consider D’Antoni’s system, Lin and the Knicks could be a perfect fit. Only time will tell. If anything he’s a better fit than B. Davis who has never lived up to his potential and just keeps getting more fat and selfish with the rock year after year.
