Did Gillette Jump the Gun on the Ricky Rubio Spot?
We’d like to give a shout out to The Hoop Doctors reader Jeff Davies for giving us the heads up on the new Gillette commercial called “The Moments” featuring Derek Jeter, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, and…ummm….Ricky Rubio? Yes, you read that correctly. Jeter, Federer, Woods, and Rubio.
I’d like to play a popular little children’s game called “Which one doesn’t belong”. Maybe ten years from now I will look foolish for even pointing out the glaring disparity here, as Rubio may one day be an NBA star and one of the great point guards of our time. Or not. That’s the point, he’s currently one of the most over hyped players from this year’s draft class, was drafted along with two other point guards in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves, and now rumor has it that Rubio may stay and play in Europe for another couple years before making the move to the NBA.
So with all of the NBA stars who would have gladly jumped at the chance to represent Gillette, they went with Ricky Rubio? Think basketball players, shaved heads, Gillette, shaving cream. Does the baby face Rubio even grow enough facial hair to shave yet?

No, the commercial is for shaving and if he shaves he should be able to Be in the commercial. The commercial came out good anyway. Doesn’t matter who’s in it!
