Rondo Look-a-like Joey Riggs Does Celtics Post-game Interview

Rajon Rondo Joey Riggs Boston Celtics

December 28, 2008 – Dr. Dime

We all know Rajon Rondo is the starting point guard for the defending champion Boston Celtics right? Well then who the hell is Joey Riggs? The Hoop Doctors aren’t back to full-time writing and covering NBA gaffes and highlights until tomorrow but we thought we would tide you over with this new Spalding-NBA Rookie Gear Commercial.

The commercial shows a miniature Rajon Rondo look-a-like named “Joey Riggs” participating in a post-game press conference after a big performance of 43 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 blocks. And in the words of Joey Riggs….”It’s not easy, but it’s what I do!”

Check it out….

HAPPY HOLIDAYS & MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

NBA Christmas

The Hoop Doctors would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas!! We hope you all are spending some quality time with your friends and family……

OH and it doesn’t hurt that aside from the playoffs, this is the most exciting day of NBA action of the year! So when you are done talking with family, plop yourself in front of the tv and enjoy old timers Shaq and Duncan going at it, and the rematch of the Lakers and Celtics.

(and Lebron’s pretty decent too I hear)

So Happy Holidays All!

Video of the Day: “Yao, Don’t Bring That Weak Stuff In Here!” – Lebron Block Party

Lebron James Yao Ming Olympics

December 24, 2008 – Dr. Browntorious

I was pumped up enough after Lebron James pinned the Yao Ming shot attempt on the backboard, but after the announcer screamed “Yao, Don’t Bring That Weak Stuff In Here!”, the adrenaline hit a whole new level.

Are you kidding me Lebron? You are going to ‘pin’ a 7’6″ mammoth like you are playing against school children? Lebron is my early pick for MVP, I mean c’mon he’s playing on a whole other level right now. If you put CP3, Kobe, or Wade on the Cavs right now instead of Lebron they probably barely squeak into the playoffs. The CAVS ARE 24-4 people! Insane Lebron, very insane.

Here’s The Hoop Doctors Video of the day folks, enjoy. (And Happy Holidays!):

Vote Amare Stoudemire All-star Video

Amare Stoudemire All-Star

December 24, 2008 – Dr. Browntorious

Amare Stoudemire is taking a page out of the Chris Bosh playbook from last year around this time, and has made a “Vote Amare” YouTube video to promote his candidacy for the all-star game. I know a lot of people I have talked to don’t like the concept of players trying to in essence “bid” for their inclusion in the all-star game. The same naysayers think that a player should let his on-court game speak for itself.

Personally I think it’s great! It shows a more down to earth, and fun side to the players that we don’t normally get to see away from the court. Amare is still super young at only 26 years old and he should be able to act the fool from time to time. And hey, the all-star game is in Pheonix this year after all, no wonder Amare wants in! Check his vid…you’ll get a good laugh:

Video of the Day: Jamal Crawford’s Circus Move Against the Magic

Jamal Crawford Warriors

December 23, 2008 – Dr. Dime

Did y’all see that circus move Jamal Crawford pulled off last night against the Orlando Magic? That was all sorts of crazy! He was really bringing that one back to the streets. The fact that he finished off the move I like to call the “how she go”, with a spin on Magic big man Gortat, then scored the bucket right in the grill of Rashard Lewis, just made the play a 10 on my degree of difficulty scale.

Crawford has been doing some serious ballin’ since he was shipped out of New York to Golden State. Unfortunately for him and the ‘Dubs’, Golden State has been getting beat by just about everyone around these days. The loss to the Magic last night was no exception, but the fact that the Magic are one of the top records in the league right now might take a bit of the sting off.

If you missed the Crawford play, here it is, The Hoop Doctors Video Play of the Day:

The Miami Heat are doing it with defense!

Miami Heat

December 22, 2008 – Dr. J-Water

The Miami Heat are winning ball games again. The Heat are 14-12 and are currently 6th in the Eastern Conference. A couple of years ago you would be saying ‘so what? That’s not that great’, but given the low expectations for the Heat coming into this season with all of their young talent, that’s a pretty good place to be.

Personally, I looked at their roster this summer and told my boys at The Hoop Doctors my prediction that the Heat would be just about .500 and scrape their way into the playoffs in the East. So the fact they are getting a few wins isn’t surprising to me at all, but what IS surprising is HOW they are getting their wins. Personally I thought the Heat would be all offense, with a healthy and rejuvenated Dwyane Wade, a couple of young scorers in Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers, and the stat stuffer Shawn Marion. Thus far this season I couldn’t be more wrong. The Heat are winning games with defense. And it’s a new style of defense that is being described as a “swarming” or “frenetic” style with lots of blocks and steals, unlike the style of the Celtics and Spurs who play it more conventional by essentially jamming up the middle and forcing you to the perimeter for tougher, lower percentage shots.

The Heat are super athletic, but for the most part are often undersized. So they are using their athleticism and quickness to out hustle, force turnovers, and quite literally “swarm” the opposition. The Miami Heat are currently sitting 6th in the NBA in blocks per game, and 5th in the NBA in steals per game. Those stats are great, but what makes them even more amazing is that they are only 26th in the NBA in defensive rebounds per game. So that tells you that they are extremely undersized and rebounding poorly, but they are making up for it with steals and blocks. And they are great at forcing their opposition into turnovers. And costly ones, as they are regularly out performing their opponents on points off turnovers.

If you want a great example of the type of defensive intensity and “swarming” that is winning ball games for the Miami Heat you should look no further than this clip from the final seconds of Friday night’s win against the mighty LA Lakers which helped seal the win for the Heat.

Nike has a Christmas gift for Lebron James. Word is Lebron will be wearing his present on Christmas day when the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Washington Wizards. The above pictured Nike Zoom Lebron VI is what Nike is calling the “Chalk Edition”. The special edition shoe features an exterior inspired by the hardwood floors at the Q, with Navy Blue on the toe, and hardwood colors on the outsole with stitching. But the tongue is where you will find the ode to Lebron’s pre-game chalk ritual with a silhouette of the man himself.
