Video: Kobe Bryant Appearance on Deal or No Deal Game Show!

Kobe Bryant Deal or No Deal

December 31, 2008 – Dr. Anklesnap

If any of our readers are Reality TV junkies you may already be aware of this, but a few weeks ago Kobe Bryant made a special appearance on the game show Deal or No Deal to present an enticing offer to the contestant Davon Clark. The offer was a set of tickets to a Lakers home game, autographed hyperdunk shoes, a trip to Hawaii to watch the Lakers training camp next year, and a promise to hang out with Kobe himself after one of the exhibition games. All Davon had to do was accept the $388,000 deal.

For the first time while watching this game show Deal or No Deal I wasn’t frustrated. Davon Clark used his common sense and took the deal instead of risking it all. As the following video shows, Mr. Clark would have ultimately ended up with a mere $1000 and no Lakers package if he hadn’t of accepted the deal when he did. Good Job Davon! I gotta say, i’m impressed with Kobe for agreeing to take part in this package and game show. The Kobe Bryant 5 years ago probably would have refused as he was less willing to put himself out there away from the game.

Lebron and Wade Take Turns Hosting A Block Party!

Lebron James Dwyane Wade

December 30, 2008 – Dr. Anklesnap

Dwyane Wade is pretty good. From what I hear Lebron James is pretty good himself. So when these two early season favorites to win the Most Valuable Player Award for 2008-09, face-off against one another you know there is going to be some highlight reel plays.

As you might expect we could fill up The Hoop Doctors site today with 100’s of highlight reel moves from Lebron and Dwyane on the offensive end in last night’s match-up of the Heat and the Cavs, but what you may not expect is how competitive these two friends and fellow Team USA Gold Medalists are with each other on defense. Both James and Wade showed why each of them deserve to be league MVP this season. Both played defense in the ‘lockdown’ variety.

Wade struck first….

Then Lebron struck back….

Video of the Day: Wade’s Still Got Crazy Hangtime!

Dwyane Wade Press Conference

December 31, 2008 – Dr. Anklesnap

Dwyane Wade has had some pretty thunderous dunks this year. Let’s face it, he gets WAY UP! But so do lots of other guys in the league. What amazes me most about Wade is his hang time. It’s what separates him from the pack on his ability to take physical contact and still hang long enough to get off a decent shot when he drives.

But when there is no physical contact, like on the open break, he reminds me of Michael Jordan in the way he just seems to float at the peak of his vertical for a split second longer than most players. In the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers last night, Wade put that hang time to good use for “multiple photo opportunities” as mentioned by the announcers. Picture perfect in my books DWade, picture perfect….

How does J.R. Rider’s “Play of the Decade” stack up in 2008?

Isiah Rider

December 30, 2008 – Dr. J-Water

It’s been more than a decade since Isiah aka “J.R.” Rider’s now infamous “Play of the Decade” where he was falling out of bounds and saved the ball straight towards the hoop and into the net for one of the wildest buckets i’ve ever seen. We want to give a shout out to The Hoop Doctors reader Patrick Alexander from Baton Rouge, LA for the reminder. Here it is:

But the “Play of the Decade” hoop by Rider was in 1994. Now that we are fast approaching 2009, how does the hoop by J.R. stack up against all of the other crazy plays we’ve had since? Over at The Hoop Doctors we aren’t necessarily thinking it’s the greatest “play” ever but it’s certainly the wildest shot ever. Another high flier, Dwyane Wade, this summer in the Olympics however had a similar play falling out of bounds, however it was an amazing alley-oop pass to Kobe Bryant that gave us a little flash of the magic of J.R. Rider…

What do you consider to be the best “play” of the last decade? How about wildest shot? We’d love to hear from you by email or in the comments section below…

Video of the Day: Mickael Pietrus Disgusting Dunk on Jason Maxiell

Mickael Pietrus

December 30, 2008 – Dr. J-Water

I realize there are a lot of people today talking about the in’s and out’s of whether or not Reggie Evans deserved the technical foul he got for ass slapping Kyle Korver (notice in the video Korver doesn’t even seem to react, as it’s not big deal). But there was an even bigger play from last night that had me reeling. I don’t know how many times i’ve watched the replay of it so far, but it never gets old.

I’m talking about the disgusting left-handed dunk Mickael Pietrus of the Orlando Magic had on Jason Maxiell of the Detroit Pistons. We’ve known for some time since his high flying reserve minutes in Golden State that Pietrus had serious hops, but last night this cat was so high he got injured on the way down.

When you jump that high you really are prone to injury as you have to plan your landing or be prepared to grab the rim to steady yourself. Pietrus clearly had no regard or respect last night for gravity. Personally, i’m thinkin’ that is one dunk Maxiell won’t soon forget. Poster time….

Should Hilton Armstrong Get Suspended For Defending Chris Paul?

Hilton Armstrong Hornets

December 29, 2008 – Dr. Browntorious

Last night at the end of the half between the New Orleans Hornets and the Indiana Pacers, tempers started to boil over. Specifically Chris Paul was getting frustrated with being down to the much weaker Indiana Pacers. Paul has been getting frustrated a lot lately with the recent poor play of the Hornets.

And if you’re frustrated, there is very few players that will get under your skin more than Troy Murphy of the Pacers. Not that he does it on purpose, but mainly because he is a workhorse that loves to bump, push, nudge, and otherwise grind out every possession until the refs whistle signals a stoppage. I love playing on a team with players like that, I conversely hate playing against players like that.

So at the end of the half Chris Paul and Troy Murphy both go for the ball following the buzzer. Words were exchanged between the two, then out of nowhere Hilton “I think i’m a heavy but i’m really not” Armstrong comes in out of nowhere to defend his superstar point guard (Not that he really needed defending at the time).

Hilton Armstrong proceeds to push Murphy hard with two hands in the chest for seemingly no reason. My guess is, Armstrong just bought himself a suspension. Good job, that must have boosted Chris Paul’s spirits, huh? Check out the play for yourself….

You need to foul Lebron harder than that!

Lebron James Cleveland Cavaliers

December 29, 2008 – Dr. Browntorious

Lebron James is 275 lbs of lean muscle mass this season. He’s like a damn freight train takin’ it to the cup, hence the nickname “L-Train”. If you try to give him a mickey mouse type of foul, or some other little tap he’s going to still score the ball and go to the line for the bonus point.

I’m not saying you should be looking to hurt him or anything, but every baller knows there is a way to foul an opposing slasher so he doesn’t get a shot off, and without it being a flagrant foul call. Either way though, give Lebron credit on last night’s reverse wrap around lay-up for the And 1 against the Miami Heat. Even though he was hardly fouled on the play, it was still quite Jordanesque given the angles he was working with to get that ball up and kiss it off the glass.

‘Bron is giving Nique a run this season as a deserving ‘human highlight reel’….
