Shawn Marion Commits To Sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers

L.A. Lakers v Miami HeatThings just keep getting better and better for the Cleveland Cavaliers as it looks like veteran forward Shawn Marion will be another key piece added to their roster, according to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.

The four time all-star played with the Dallas Mavericks for the past four seasons and was a significant component of their championship victory in 2011. But following that year, the team was unable to defend their title and gradually struggled to find their groove again.

The Indiana Pacers were in serious contention of acquiring Marion’s services, however, the chance to play with LeBron James and another shot at the championship was just too overwhelming for him. The Cavaliers can only actually offer him a minimum deal, which he is still willing to accept.

Marion, 36, clearly still has some fuel left in the tank and the Cavs will benefit a lot from him. His ability to play multiple positions at his size adds extra versatility into the roster and certainly can be a match up nightmare for some teams. Furthermore, his championship experience will be of great use in the locker room, especially for the young ones who can learn a thing or two from the veteran.

This addition further makes Cleveland the ideal favorite to rise above the Eastern Conference next season, but is this enough to dethrone the defending NBA champions, San Antonio Spurs?

Well that still remains to be seen.
