Former Nova Star Scottie Reynolds Goes Ballistic in D-League Fight

April 13, 2011 – Allen Moll

I personally think it was a travesty that former NCAA All American 1st Teamer Scottie Reynolds wasn’t selected in last year’s NBA Draft. The Villanova standout became the first All American ever to not get drafted.

Maybe it was his perceived lack of athleticism or lack of overwhelming size from the point guard position. But the former McDonald’s All American flat out knows how to win, helping Nova to deep NCAA Tournament runs in each of his 4 seasons on the Philly mainline.

He finished his illustrious Wildcat career just 21 points shy of breaking Kerry Kittles’ school record for scoring. In addition, as a junior he finished off one of the most memorable game-ending plays in NCAA Tournament history when he drove the full length of the floor for a game-winning layup to beat Pitt and send Nova to their first Final Four since winning the 1985 National Championship.

After being passed over on Draft night in 2010, Reynolds decided to take his talents overseas to play for a 2nd tier club in Italy, rather than take his chances on making an NBA squad in the Summer Leagues. But his European career ended only after a month, and ended up returning to the States reportedly because…he was homesick.

Upon returning to the US, Scottie was rather quickly scooped up by the Tulsa 66ers before being acquired in a trade by the Springfield Armor of the NBA D-League. In 46 games this season, he averaged 13.1 ppg, 5.9 assists, and nearly 2 steals per night but more importantly he was a +16.24 for his squad when on the floor. After such outstanding production, I truly expect that Reynolds may earn a spot on an NBA roster next season.

Hopefully NBA GM’s don’t get a copy of the video in question where Reynolds takes offense to an obvious moving screen by former Texas stand-out Connor Atchley and does a Greco-Roman style wrestling takedown on the Rio Grand Valley Vipers big man. After teammates separated the two combatants, Atchley retired to his bench while the hot tempered Reynolds wanted more and had to be visibly restrained before being tossed from the contest.
