Warriors GM Bob Myers Expects Steve Kerr to be Back on the Sidelines…But Maybe Not Right Away

Good news, Golden State Warriors fans, as well as any decent human being on the planet: General manager Bob Myers thinks head coach Steve Kerr’s back issues are fixable, and that he will return to the sidelines.

Now for the bad news: That doesn’t mean Kerr will be back in the fold this season.

From the Associated Press’ Jane McCauley (via NBA.com):

Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers fully expects Steve Kerr to find a solution to his debilitating health issues and be back on the bench without being forced out of coaching altogether because of complications from two back surgeries.

It just might not be right away. Myers says, “What he’s facing is fixable.”

This comes as a welcomed stance for anyone who was worried about Kerr’s long-term future in the coaching game. He and the Warriors have done a good job ensuring the focus remains on this season, and this championship push, but he missed 43 games last year due to similar problems, and now, less than 18 months later, he’s out again.

Nothing suggested that Kerr would be done for good, of course, but with all these issues adding up, it had to be in the back of the Warriors’ mind. It’s good to know that they’re a well-oiled machine ready to transcend Kerr’s immediate absence, but it’s even better to think they won’t have to plow on without him indefinitely.
