It’s that time of year again where we find out which guys have been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame and which guys will have to wait until next year. This time around the list of names are very interesting, headlined by Alonzo Mourning, Mitch Richmond, Tim Hardaway, Kevin Johnson and Spencer Haywood.
Alonzo has been selected on his first ballot and he will be joined by Mitch Richmond. Mitch is an interesting case as he has been largely fortten. If I hadn’t looked it up, I never would’ve guessed that he averaged 20+ for 10-straight seasons, including his rookie campaign.
The likes of Johnson, Hardaway and Haywood may have to wait until next year. If I had to guess, Hardaway will be in next.
Mourning will become the second player with Heat ties in the Hall, with Heat 2006 NBA championship point guard Gary Payton inducted in 2013, albeit more for his success with the Seattle SuperSonics than his 2005-06 and ’06-07 seasons largely utilized as a Heat reserve.
