LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are cool!
Only not in the way you think.
And only maybe.
Here’s what ESPN’s Tony Rizzo said while making an appearance on The Really Big Show (h/t King James Gospel’s Jackson Flickinger):
From very reliable sources. Plural. Kyrie and LeBron were in the same room over the weekend in Florida…Apparently these guys were in the same room and here’s the deal. I don’t know if there’s a thawing out process. All I do know is LeBron didn’t punch Kyrie the way Stephen A thought he would. I can report that. As for what they talked about or discussed…it was very cool. They didn’t get into any heated discussions.
What does this all mean?
Probably nothing.
It could be a coincidence. This meeting could be on purpose. The Cavaliers could have come up, along with Irving’s trade request, along with the reason why, along with a constructive dialogue on how the two can move forward, either separately or together.
Or, again, this could have been nothing.
A lot of stuff goes on beyond the scenes in these situations. James and Irving could have simply met to clear the air. James, by now, could know that Irving’s trade request has more to do with his appetite for being an alpha, or his lack of faith in the Cavaliers, than it does playing with James in general. We just don’t know.
All of this in mind, do not bank on this face-to-face leading to anything profound. It will still be a shock if Irving begins next season with the Cavaliers. These chance or on-purpose public encounters cannot mean that much when it’s become clear, through a bunch of reports, that Irving has made up his mind, and that he’s been thinking about leaving Cleveland for some time.
