Deron Williams Interested in Ending NBA Career with Utah Jazz

Deron Williams played for the Utah Jazz a lifetime ago, and his time there ended in a haze of Jerry Sloane-related controversy, but he still holds a fond place for the franchise in his heart—so much so that he’d like to retire in blueish purple, yellow and green.

As ESPN.com’s Tim MacMahon told ESPN 700’s OC & Hackett show (via HoopsHype):

Though the split between the Jazz and Williams was sore and highly publicized, MacMahon said Williams still loves Utah, and would prefer to end his playing career in Salt Lake City as a member of the Jazz.
Williams, 32, is probably coming to terms with his NBA mortality, and he hasn’t spent more time with any other team. He lasted almost six seasons in Utah. It’s there he was at the height of his powers, rivaling Chris Paul for the best-point-guard-in-the-NBA crown. He’ll by no means return under the guise of rekindling that magic, but it would give him the chance to play for a burgeoning contender.
The Jazz might have room for him over the summer, depending on how much he costs. Gordon Hayward (player option) and George Hill will both need maxish deals. Backup point guard Shelvin Mack, also a free agent, is good as gone, and head coach Quin Snyder falls in and out of love with playing Dante Exum.
If the Jazz don’t see Raul Neto being able to shoulder a heavier burden and remain in play to be a dark horse contender, Williams might be able to find a home in his old one.
