New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson might want to rethink his attempts to trade Carmelo Anthony.
Melo tweeted this on Tuesday ahead of the Knicks’ game with the Washington Wizards:
Running away from things you find unpleasant causes suffering. But facing and challenging such situations will enrich your life. #StayMelo pic.twitter.com/B6F0MWwG4o
— Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) January 31, 2017
There’s no way this doesn’t have anything to do with the recent rumors, right? Especially knowing how many times Jackson, or a friend of his, has sent indirect messages through the media?
Anthony owns a no-trade clause, so his say is ultimately the final one. And while joining the Cleveland Cavaliers or Los Angeles Clippers—or Boston Celtics, or whomever—might seem like a no-brainer, Melo has a family to consider and has made his preference to remain in New York, for better or worse, on multiple occasions.
A lot can change between now and the Feb. 23 trade deadline. Depending on what teams and offers the Knicks bring to the table, Anthony could decide to abandon the rebuild and devote the remainder of his prime days to a squad better fit for contention.
At the same time, Anthony’s approach has remained the same through and through, and after reading this tweet, it’s hard to imagine him willingly waiving his no-trade clause unless the Knicks completely fall outside the playoff picture in the coming weeks.
