As someone who grew up in Chicago and played his first eight NBA seasons in his hometown, Derrick Rose never had to worry about being far from home for Thanksgiving.
Now, as a member of the New York Knicks, it appears as though he won’t have an opportunity to make it home for turkey day so he decided to remedy the situation and avoid being lonely on the holiday by inviting himself to Carmelo Anthony’s house.
Here is what Derrick Rose told Ian Begley of ESPN:
“I just asked where his family’s (going) and asked if it was cool if I came over. He said yeah so I don’t think I have to bring anything but an appetite. Yeah, that’s the only thing I have to bring right now.”
Man what I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall when that request happened. I guess it’s a good sign for team camaraderie that Rose felt comfortable enough to ask his new teammate to join his family, and gracious for Anthony to accept, but it would have been funny to see if it was a strained or uncomfortable “yes” from Melo.
Also, being a guest and someone who makes in the neighborhood of $20 million per year, it seems like Rose should probably bring something to the festivities, if at the very least to prevent any potential weird energy between he and Melo and to make La La happy of course.
