The NBA season is about to start and the Cavs have yet to sign Smith to a contract. After helping them win their first ever title it seemed an obvious choice to re-sign J.R., but talks have stalled throughout the summer as both sides work on reaching a mutual satisfactory deal.
J.R. reportedly wants $15 million per year, but the Cavaliers are the only bidder on the market, and they’re in expensive luxury tax territory.
The Cavs are familiar with this situation, as they faced a similar thing with Tristan Thompson, but with LeBron’s ‘help’ the issue was resolved. It is starting to look like J.R. may need Lebron’s ‘help’ as well as it is in the interest of both parties to reunite.
