If there were a an “All-Whatever-Happened-To…?” squad, Darius Miles would probably be a first-teamer. His exit from the NBA was a swift and quiet as his actual playing career.
Drafted 3rd overall by the Clippers right out of high school in the 2000 draft, Miles joined a team that had Quentin Richardson, Lamar Odom and Elton Brand. The Clips were young, explosive, and were supposed to dominate the league for years to come. But as was the case with everything related to the Clippers back then, none of that happened.
Miles played for four teams, and was last seen on an NBA court in 2009. A barrage of injuries, particularly a right knee injury, cut his career short. Even so, he managed to earn over $65 million in his playing career. Despite that, he has filed for bankruptcy.
Miles is 34 now. It’s been 16 years since the 6-foot-9 forward was drafted by the L.A. Clippers right out of East St. Louis High School.
But injuries, legal problems and bad investments have left Miles asking the court to allow him to sell off his assets to pay creditors. Miles listed $460,385 in assets and $1.57 million in liabilities.
Miles and his bankruptcy attorney, Robert Eggmann, declined to comment when contacted this week.
