After J.B Bickerstaff informed the Rockets that he’s not interested in becoming their permanent head coach, the search has become wide open. We’ve seen jobs, like Sacramento, get filled up, so the number of available gigs is shrinking. But one name that has the Rockets attention is Kenny Smith.
I’ve said for years that, on TNT’s Inside the NBA, Kenny has demonstrated the know-how to break down basketball enough to the point where you could see him excelling as a coach. And, he has the personality and right temperament to relate to today’s players. To that end, he’ll be interviewing for the Houston job.
For the sake of the famed Inside the NBA, basketball fans are surely hoping Kenny doesn’t get the job.
The Rockets will reportedly meet with TNT analyst Kenny Smith and former Utah Jazz coach Jeff Hornacek on Tuesday.
According to ESPN’s Calvin Watkins, Houston has not discussed any of this with star guard James Harden, but that is because it is in the early stages of the process. Harden is expected to be in the loop before a decision is made.
