Boris Diaw Will Miss Spurs’ Next 3 Games with Abductor Injury

Boris Diaw

Boris Diaw will not be suiting up with the San Antonio Spurs for a little while.

From Project Spurs’ Paul Garcia:

Three games is three games, yada, yada, yada. The Spurs are locked into second place in the Western Conference, and head coach Gregg Popovich probably would have rested Diaw for one or two of those games anyway, just because that’s what he does.

But this is significant for anyone hoping the Spurs give the Golden State Warriors their best shot in either of the remaining contests they have against one another. With Diaw out for Thursday’s tilt, that leaves Sunday’s matchup as the last chance we’ll have before the playoffs to see the Spurs and Warriors duke it out at full strength.

In all likelihood, even if Diaw is healthy by then, we still won’t see that. Popovich and the Spurs clearly aren’t chasing first place in the West. They will have no qualms about being a minor steppingstone in the Warriors’ quest for 73 wins.

So fans of great basketball can only hope this is, indeed, the inevitable Western Conference Finals matchup.

Well that, or they better hope that the Spurs are bent on remaining undefeated at home, and thus compelled to trot out all their key players against the Warriors on Sunday night.
