The Knicks and Phil Jackson probably feel somewhat desperate to make a splash this summer. The Zen Master’s regime hasn’t quite turned out as he’d hoped. They failed to sign the big-named player or head coach last summer and the team hasn’t performed well.
Jackson will have a chance to make up for himself this summer. Names like Kevin Durant, Al Horford and possibly Dwight Howard may be available. KD seems unlikely, but maybe the two aforementioned big men are in play. Sources close to Dwight say New York intrigues him.
Along those lines, one name to keep in mind this summer is Dwight Howard.
Some of Howard’s friends have let it be known recently that the center would be interested in coming to New York as a free agent if he opts out of his current contract, league sources say.
What player who wants to make a move wouldn’t be ‘interested’ in New York? Not only is it the Mecca of basketball, it is also a team that is known for overpaying players. Given the luke warm reception Dwight Howard received from other teams before the trade deadline, it’s not shocking at all that the big man is voicing interest in New York.
But should New York be interested in Howard? They are likely better off continuing to focus on finding a solid free agent floor general.
