Sacramento Kings Reportedly Leaning Toward Firing George Karl

George Karl
What, you didn’t think the Sacramento Kings were going to let the New York Knicks have all the fun, did you?

Head coach George Karl has been on the hot seat for a while and, apparently, won’t have to wait much longer for a decision to be made on his future. The Kings have already made their decision and, according to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein, plan on canning Karl:

The Sacramento Kings are going ahead with a coaching change and plan to fire George Karl in the coming days, league sources told ESPN.

NBA coaching sources told ESPN that the Kings have decided internally that a change on the bench is needed and is likely to happen after Sacramento plays its final game before the All-Star break Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Well. There ya go.

The Kings are now 21-31 and five games outside the playoff picture after falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers are Monday night. They have lost five in a row and nine of the last 10.

Karl, meanwhile, has never once been a DeMarcus Cousins favorite. Trade rumors swirled around leading into this season, and regardless of their legitimacy, it painted a messy behind-the-scenes picture that, at times, seemed salvageable but has now been tarnished beyond repair.
