Boston Celtics Are Interested in Kevin Love and Al Horford

Kevin Love and Al Horford

Don’t let the Boston Celtics’ relatively quiet rumor mill fool you.

Team president Danny Ainge is still on the prowl.

From the Boston Herald‘s Steve Bulpett:

According to several sources, the club is holding out for a hero to shake loose from another roster while also looking for the next partially hidden gem (think Jae Crowder, Isaiah Thomas).

The Celts do have interest in both Love and Horford; the question is price. And the expectation continues to be that, while the C’s would go higher for Love than Horford, their present teams want more than Ainge will give.

Whether that could change as tomorrow’s 3 p.m. trade deadline approaches is another matter.

Traditionally, the most reported scenarios are the ones that Ainge and the Celtics avoid. So if they’re being linked to Kevin Love and Al Horford, even if loosely, it’s unlikely they make a move for either at the trade deadline. Besides, the Atlanta Hawks seem unsure about whether they want to blow things up, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have repeatedly said Love is not on the chopping block.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the Celtics are in for a quiet deadline. Ainge can swoop in out of left field and pull the trigger on a moment’s notice. Just last season, during the 11th hour, the Celtics snagged Isaiah Thomas, now an All-Star, from the Phoenix Suns for spare parts.

Just because you think you know what Ainge is up to, that doesn’t mean you do. At the same time, just because you don’t really know what Ainge is up to, that doesn’t mean he isn’t up to something.
