Nick Young is still Nick Young.
During the Los Angeles Lakers’ almost win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, Swaggy P actually played some pretty good defense. He was active and engaged and hounding many of Minny’s shooters.
And he wants everyone to know it. And because he wants everyone to know it, he has officially nominated himself for the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award, per Lakers Nation’s Serena Winters:
Young wants to be considered for Defensive POY: "If not it’s like they snubbed @Drake 'Hotline' from the Grammys!" pic.twitter.com/PdhhR1k4yZ

Just in case you were born yesterday and are wondering if this could actually happen, I direct you toward Young’s career defensive performance.
Since entering the NBA, Young has racked up 3.2 defensive win shares. That, for the record, is the fewer number of defensive win shares in NBA history among all players to log at least 12,600 total minutes for their careers, according to Basketball-Reference.
That, for the subsequent record, is bad.
And it’s one of the many reasons why Young will never get consistently lauded for his defense, let alone earn Defensive Player of the Year or All-Defensive Team dap.
Cheer up, though, Swags.
Clearly you still have your sense of humor, and that’s something.
