Karl-Anthony Towns Ready to Battle Kristaps Porzingis for ‘Next 20 Years’

Karl-Anthony Towns

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Karl-Anthony Towns plans on rivaling New York Knicks newbie Kristaps Porzingis for years to come.

Make that decades to come.

Following the Knicks’ Tuesday night victory over the Timberwolves, a game the marked the first time these two Rookie of the Year candidates squared off, Towns waxed optimism at the thought of playing against Porzingis long term. Per ESPN New York’s Ian Begley:

“I can’t wait to be playing against him for the next 20 years.”

This implies both with have long, injury-free careers, which we, let’s face it, cannot guarantee. But 20 years is a long time, and modern medicine at that point may enable NBA players to continue their careers deep into their 40s, even perhaps into their 50s.

I’m kidding, of course. Except with regard to Steph Curry. That dude is going to play forever.

Something to consider, though, is that both players are only 20 years old. A 20-years-long rivalry—and that term is used loosely knowing how light the NBA is on player beefs these days—isn’t entirely out of the question. And that means there could come a time, in the far-off future, when Towns and Porzingis have been pitted against one another, trying to outdo each other, for more than half of their entire lives.

Which is just absurd—ridiculous enough that we should all hope Karl-Anthony Towns’ hope is actualized, and this head-to-head matchup spans 20 years, dozens of illustrious battles and, hell, a few NBA Finals flings.
