Nets, Timberwolves in Serious Talks About Kevin Garnett Trade

garnettnetssIn the standings the Timberwolves are the second-worst team in the league at a record of 11-42 for the first half of the season.

There’s honestly not much to look forward to anymore except the upcoming draft lottery and of course the development of their young guns like Andrew Wiggins and Zach Lavine, the keys to the franchise’s future.

But now, as we begin the second half of the season—Timberwolves fans may have another reason to keep watching their beloved team.

Why?

Because if the reports are true about trade talks between the Nets and Wolves, Kevin Garnett may be returning to the place where his career started.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, the Nets and Timberwolves are in talks for a deal which would involve bringing back Garnett to Minnesota.

The Minnesota Timberwolves ?are making an 11th-hour push before Thursday’s trade deadline to try to reacquire Wolves legend Kevin Garnett in a swap that would send Thaddeus Young to Brooklyn, ESPN.com has learned.

Sources told ESPN.com the sides have engaged in serious discussions on the deal, which would ultimately require Garnett’s approval even if the teams agree before Thursday’s 3 p.m. deadline, since Garnett possesses one of the NBA’s six full no-trade clauses.

Garnett, 38, spent his first 12 years in the league with the Timberwolves before being traded to the Celtics, where he won his first championship.

This may come as a surprise for most since at this late stage of Garnett’s career we’d expect him to prefer playing for a contender before retirement. However, a return to Minnesota would also be a good ending (arguably a more emotional close) to a Hall of Fame worthy career.

Garnett’s fans in Minnesota wouldn’t disagree with this either. Now all we need to do is figure out a way to get Stephon Marbury out of China and back on the T-Wolves…
