Mike Malone was surprisingly fired as Kings coach nearly two months ago and Tyrone Corbin has been the interim. But Corbin surely knew he wasn’t the long term answer since the team has been openly interviewing candidates. George Karl is one of those and he’s reportedly set to take over after the all-star break according to ESPN.
Although the Kings have yet to formally announce a done deal with Karl, sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the organization is already operating under the premise that Karl will take over the team after the All-Star break.
The parties, sources said, were still working Tuesday on the finer deal points of an expected four-year contract that will formally establish Karl, an ESPN analyst, as Tyrone Corbin’s successor and Sacramento’s third coach of the season starting next week.
On Monday night’s edition of FOX Sports Live on FOX Sports 1, Gary Payton had strong words for Sacramento Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins. Payton, the former nine-time NBA All-Star and first-ballot Hall of Famer, enjoyed some of his finest seasons playing under head coach George Karl.
