Potential Lottery Pick Marcus Smart Shoves Fan, Gets 3 Gm Suspension

marcus smart pushes fan rt float 1Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart made the unusual decision to return to the Cowboys for his sophomore season in an attempt to not only win an NCAA Title but improve his draft stock.

Up until two weeks ago, both scenarios seemed to be a distinct possibility as the OK State Cowboys had gotten out to an amazing start ranked among the Top 10 teams in the nation and individually, Smart is one of the frontrunners for NCAA POY honors and potentially being selected as a top 5 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

But both the Cowboys and Smart have been going through a rough time as of late, losing starting big man Micheal Cobbins to injury, dismissing freshman point Stevie Clark for disciplinary reasons, and the team dropping 4 straight Big 12 contests.

During the losing streak, Smart has begun to show some frustration, arguing with teammates and even kicking a chair in anger of another defeat.

Then, his frustration officially boiled over Saturday night, as Smart fell into the first row tying to block a Texas Tech dunk in the waning seconds of a 65-61 loss to Texas Tech.

As teammates helped their star player to his feet, Smart became incensed after being taunted by a Red Raider fan and shoved the fan with two hands before being restrained.  Smart was assessed a technical and remained on the bench over the game’s final few seconds.

Smart claims that the fan used a racial slur that prompted his angry reaction.  Either way, there is no excuse for Smart’s actions that prompted a 3 game suspension jointly by the Big 12 Conference and Oklahoma State University.

Upon further investigation, the fan’s name was Jeff Orr, a diehard Tech fan that regularly sits behind the basket at Red Raider home games, but in Smart’s defense, the fan has shown some pretty obnoxious behavior in numerous previous scenarios.

The only question now is how will the incident affect Marcus Smart’s draft stock…..
